EMERGENCY workers and police were called to a farm early today after the body of a man was discovered.
Police, firefighters and ambulance crews battled through driving snow to Gaulkthorn Farm in Broadfield, Oswaldtwistle around 7.30am.
The body of 87-year-old Richard Hindle was discovered by a housekeeper.
Mr Hindle, who lived on his own, is believed to have died some time yesterday evening.
Police believe he was overcome by smoke after a small fire started in the room where his body was discovered.
Mr Hindle was found in a chair and there was some slight fire damage around where he was sitting.
Specialist fire and police officers were carried out tests earlier today and a doctor was also called to the farm. Detectives from Accrington CID say there was nothing suspicious about the fire.A post mortem examination was due to take place today.
