BRISTOL Rovers' player-manager Ian Holloway claimed after his side had lost to Burnley that he didn't envy Stan Ternent's recent splash into the transfer market.

Record £750,000 buy Steve Davis scored one of the Clarets' goals and £350,000 signing Micky Mellon had a hand in the other two as the Clarets secured a 4-3 win.

But Holloway claimed afterwards: "I don't want to do that (spend £1 million). That doesn't win you things.

"It does help if you get quality everywhere but you have got to get that.

"I would not like to pick up their wage bill if that's what they're going to do but they get all sorts of fans in their ground."

THE CLARETS will sport a new look next season after confirmation this week that they will have a new kit supplier.

But the shirt sponsors remain the same with the club stressing that the two-year deal with P3 and Hargreaves' sponsorship of the North Stand has been good business.

Director Bob Blakeborough pointed out that the value of the two deals exceeds that of the previous agreement with shirt and stand sponsors Endsleigh. The club is obviously keen to continue selling the current strip and CISA's expected decision to lift their boycott of club goods could be good news.

Members supporting the boycott may not have bought this season's model and so as not to miss out on a strip that will be replaced in the summer the club shop can expect a rush !

The Clarets are currently holding a sale of club merchandise in their shops at Turf Moor.

NIGEL Gleghorn can't stop scoring since joining forces with ex-Clarets boss John Bond at Unibond League First Division club Witton Albion.

The former Burnley midfielder, who lost his position as player-coach at Altrincham earlier this season, notched another in Albion's win at Harrogate last weekend which keeps them on the fringe of the promotion race.

ANOTHER former Claret who has been on the move is striker Nathan Peel, who has left Winsford United to step up into the Football Conference with Northwich Victoria.

PAUL FLETCHER is going up in the world following his appointment as director of commercial affairs at the new English National Stadium.

But the former Clarets' striker insists that Burnley's fortunes won't be far from his mind. "Burnley are the great love of my life and I will be keeping my eye on what's going on," said Fletcher, a crowd favourite at Turf Moor throughout the 1970s.

BURNLEY's reserves return to Pontins League action at West Bromwich Albion next Wednesday (kick-off 7.00).
