A MOTORIST from Yorkshire stopped me in Accrington to ask directions.
I have lived here all my life, but I struggled to tell him the best way to his destination.
With pedestrianisation, the town centre has been changed quite a lot.
Six sets of traffic lights and pedestrian crossings face you in a quarter of a mile on Eastgate. More and more humps, 'mini alps' and chicanes, more in keeping with Brands Hatch, are being laid. I believe new ones are to appear in Burnley Road and Queens Road.
The way town centres are being altered, I think that as well as carrying a jack, tools, map, etc, a set of rune stones, tarot cards, or a ouija board may come in handy for drivers.
A passenger, say Russell Grant or Mystic Meg, could foresee the way through.
Calming measures aimed at the bad drivers can also cause frustration among the better ones.
