ENTERPRISE boss Ron Morrish is bidding to win where Atherton, Hick and Hollioake failed!
Ron is preparing to challenge the Aussies to try and salvage some pride for England after that Ashes defeat.
The 49-year-old director of Pendle Enterprise Trust, has been picked to represent his country against Australia in a contest 'down under' next month.
"During the week we'll be playing more than 500 hands of bridge - that works out at around 10 hours a day," said Ron, who played bridge on the international circuit for many years.
Ron, who lives in Heptonstall, took up the game in 1970 and has represented his country in the game before - even playing on the opposite side of the table to Omar Sharif once or twice. The bridge congress is being staged at Gold Coast, Queensland and comprises several pairs and teams events including a 'test match'.
As well as English and Australian teams, there will also be players from New Zealand and the Far East. The English Team is being sponsored by Nelson-based Farmhouse Biscuits and British Airways.
And Ron is hoping to take a special weapon with him for the battle. "I've heard there's a brewery that makes a beer called Pommie's Revenge - I'm planning to take a few bottles of that with me!"
