DEAF customers at Debenhams in Blackburn, will find it easier to communicate with store staff - thanks to East Lancashire Deaf Society.
Workers from the store have completed a deaf awareness training course to give them an insight into the needs of deaf customers.
There has been a recent surge in interest in sign language, according to the society and more local organisations are planning to send staff on the courses to improve their dealings with deaf people.
The first basic sign language course run by the society for some time is starting this week and, according to the course organiser Jenny Harmer, it is proving to be very popular.
She said: "We only have a few places left. The interest has been considerable, from both deaf and hearing people who want to be able to communicate effectively with deaf family members, or customers."
