THE RUBBISH, FLUD, WALTER MITTY'S HEAD at the Good Night Club, Nelson

THIS was a meltdown of styles from a trio of the area's finest pop acts.

The Rubbish, Flud and Walter Mitty's Head put together a show that blended their grunge, R and B and funky jazz influences in a seamless fashion.

The Walter Mitty gang kicked off the evening with Scott Wilkinson's swirling guitar and their bright, punky R and B sound.

The group, who have become the Peter Pans of the Pendle pub scene with over a decade on the circuit, continue to win new friends with their polished tunes.

As Time Bomb brought their explosive set to a close, the stage was set for the new-look Flud. Former Syndicate frontman Damian Manville is at the helm and taking on the vacated roll of lead guitarist has left his energetic stage presence more restricted. However, his sobering, melancholy lyrics were captivating.

It's early days for the three-piece, whose fast, power-chord guitar sound harks back to the more classic indie sound.

The Rubbish's comedy band wagon rolls on as the headline act continue their quest for fun.

"It's a crazy scene," sang singer Bruce Thomas and, with a grab bag full of near-perfect pop tunes, it has to be said that Pendle has never had rubbish of this quality before.

The fusion of ideas that created the group's debut album Crazy Farmers has been back in action, with the band unveiling one song from their new batch.

Ten has a more mellow, West Coast sound nand the simple counting chorus had the packed dancefloor singing along.

Well satisfied, the full house danced into the early hours.
