THE people of Blackburn and Darwen are being encouraged to learn a new skill for the new millennium.
Leading local personalities are backing the campaign - including Blackburn MP and Home Secretary Jack Straw who has vowed to brush up on his French.
The move is part of a lifelong learning initiative supported by several organisations in the area including Blackburn with Darwen Council, Blackburn College and St Mary's College.
A number of avenues are open for people to return to learning or take up a new subject.
The Integra project, funded by the European Social Fund, has opened a learning centre for basic skills and computer training at Bangor Street Community Centre.
And study facilities are available at Blackburn Central Library with other opportunities on offer through the volunteer bureau and the East Lancashire Careers Service.
