DENIS Underwood has been appointed manager of Great Harwood Town following the sacking of Ian McGarry at the weekend.
Former Clitheroe boss Underwood will meet the players tomorrow night and take charge of the struggling Unibond First Division side against Burscough at The Showground on Saturday.
Harwood chairman Bill Holden was delighted to have made a quick appointment but also pleased to have a well-known local name in control.
He spoke to several contenders before the decision was made and said: "Denis did a good job at Clitheroe, taking them to the Vase final and keeping them around the top of the North West Counties League.
"Having played at Great Harwood when Eric Whalley was in charge and we had a successful side, he also knows the people here.
"I felt it was important to make an appointment as soon as possible but it wasn't a case of just appointing anyone.
"Denis knows the local scene very well and I am looking forward to working with him. Hopefully, it can give the club the lift it needs to get us away from the bottom."
