A DRIVER stopped in a police spot check turned out to have been banned for two years, Burnley magistrates heard.
John James Pedder, 26, thought he was entitled to have his licence back, his solicitor told the court.
Pedder, of Claire Street, Burnley, was sentenced to 120 hours community service and banned for 18 months, which will add three months to his current ban.
He admitted driving while disqualified and without insurance and a test certificate. He was also ordered to pay £60 costs.
Richard Taylor, defending, said Pedder thought he was entitled to have his licence back.
He had never been before the court for similar matters.
No bad driving was alleged and Pedder had co-operated with police. In the past he had successfully completed a community service order.
He added: "He is disqualified until the year 2000. He accepts you may want to disqualify him again and he couldn't argue."
