A GOLD and jewellery supplier was attacked and robbed as he was making a delivery to a stall on Burnley market.
The man, who had driven from Blackburn where he lives, was just getting out of this silver BMW on level three of the market multi-storey car park when he was hit from behind.
He was knocked to the floor and struck a number of blows.
A black case containing items of jewellery worth thousands of pounds was stolen.
The injured man, whose identity has not been released by police, staggered into the market hall where he was given help.
The emergency services were called and he was taken to Burnley General Hospital for treatment. His injuries are not thought to be serious.
Because he was hit from behind he has not been able to give a description of his attacker to police.
Det Sgt Mark Gray said: "He told us he was hit by something which felt like a bat-type weapon." The incident happened at about 12.30pm yesterday and police are appealing for anyone who saw the attack or who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the car park around that time to contact Burnley CID on 01282 425001.
