A NATIONAL conference on the future of education will be held at Blackburn College on Monday.
Education officers, councillors and teachers visit the town for the conference, which has been organised by the local government association.
Delegates will discuss all aspects of education both nationally and locally, with the emphasis likely to be on government proposals for the teaching profession.
Councillor Bill Taylor, chairman of the authority's education committee, will make the welcoming address at the conference.
He said: "As a new education authority, which has recently secured education action zone status, we are delighted to have made such an early impact.
"The Prime Minister recently visited us with Education and Employment Secretary David Blunkett and Education Minister Estelle Morris attended a conference in Blackburn in 1998.
"I am sure this meeting will afford the chance for a useful exchange of views and some lively debate."
