A VICAR will be flying to Chicago after winning a £1,500 award for his theological work which has changed the way his parish is run.

The Rev John Cree, vicar of Feniscowles, has spent four years studying for a doctorate with theologians in Oxford and Sheffield to create a new model for the parish's work and ministry.

He said: "When the parish church was built, Feniscowles was a village of 300 people, now it's a suburb of 8,500.

"Accepting this meant a major re-organisation, emphasising teamwork and shared responsibilities between vicar, parochial church council and members of the congregation."

Mr Cree will use the cash, given by the Ecclesiastical Insurance Group, to complete his work, including spending a week with other scholars in Chicago in May.
