POLICE are investigating a burglary at the home of a man who was jailed earlier this week for a series of sex offences.

The thieves broke into the home of John Kyle in Coach Road, Waterfoot at around 3am yesterday.

Police were alerted by a neighbour after a burglar alarm was activated at the house of the former psychiatric nurse.

Det Sergeant Michael Collins of Rawtenstall CID said: "It would appear that this was a burglary with gain in mind rather than for any form of revenge.

"The only damage done was carried out to gain entry to the property rather than vandalism.

"We are still trying to ascertain what was taken but it is difficult because the occupant of the house is otherwise detained."

Kyle, 60, was sent to prison for eight years at Preston Crown Court on Wednesday after he pleaded guilty to 10 charges of indecent assault and a further serious sex offence.
