I HAVE just received by monthly newsletter from International Fund for Animal Welfare, reminding me that the 1999 sealhunt will soon be starting.
Beautiful baby harp seals as young as 12 days old will be clubbed to death and skinned, some even being murdered by illegal weapons, impaled on metal hooks and skinned alive. The mother seal crying out in grief for her dead baby. And now, more horror: a new Asian market for aphrodisiacs made of seal parts has been found, as well as the use of seal fur and meat.
The IFAW have previously been able to document evidence of 140 acts of cruelty on ice, but we need support. I plead to all animal lovers to write to Canada's Minister of Foreign Affairs to stop this slaughter and cruelty, and urge them to contact IFAW for more information.
The addresses are: The Honourable Lloyd Axworthy, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dept. of Foreign Affairs, 125 Sussex Drive, Ottawa ON KIA OG2, Canada, and IFAW, Warren Court, Park Road, Crowbridge, East Sussex, TN6 GA.
