LANCASHIRE Lynx kicked off the new league season with a narrow one point victory over Bramley at Victory Park.
After half an hour Lynx were trailing 12-0 but a stirring fight back earned them the points. Hero for Lynx was Tommy Hodgkinson with the match winning drop goal 13 minutes from time.
In the first half Lynx were playing into the teeth of a strong wind and they struggled to make any impression in the early stages.
Paul Norton and PJ Solomon were the only Lynx players looking capable of making a breakthrough.
And Lynx finally produced a telling move in the 33 minute when Simon Smith broke clear and he slipped the ball to Darren Abram who stepped inside and ran in to touch down over the post.
Phil Jones added the conversion. With no further scoring Bramley went in at half time with a 12-6 advantage.
Straight from the restart Lynx reduced the arrears, a mistake by Bramley from the kick off meant they had to drop out from under their own post and Lynx took full advantage when Darren Abram touched down in the corner.
Finally they did manage to make the pressure count in the 67 minute when Hodgkinson managed to slot over a drop goal to give Lynx the lead for the first time in the match.
Man of the match for Lynx was David Jones.
