LANCASHIRE'S pool stars are hoping for a marriage made in heaven at the National Inter County Pool Championships next month.

While the men will be out to pocket their second successive national title, the ladies will be aiming to go one better than last year when they lost in the semi finals.

Lancashire will represent region two which covers as far afield as West Yorkshire, Cumbria, Merseyside, Cheshire and Greater Manchester, at the all England event to be staged in Great Yarmouth.

Lancashire men won last year's championship and are out to retain their title this year. The men bossed the show in 1998 but the ladies were second best in the semis to the eventual winners, London Ladies.

Lancahsire County Pool Association press secretary Eva Pinder said: "We have high hopes for this year's competition because both teams have been in top form all season.

"The men will be out to retain their crown and the ladies will be keen to erase the disappointment of last time. London Ladies will be our main rivals again and everyone is gunning for revenge.

"The standard in both competitions is very high and we will certainly be a known force this year after our previous exploits. We are there to be shot at, but confidence within the teams is high."

The championships are scheduled for the weekend of March 12-14 at the Vauxhall Holiday Park, Great Yarmouth.
