DETAILS of one of the largest house building schemes in Pendle in recent years have been unveiled by developers Fairclough Homes.
The company has submitted plans for 144 detached houses on fields bordered by Halifax Road, Nelson, and Edge End Avenue and Kings Causeway, Brierfield, to Pendle Council.
The planning application, which has been in the pipeline for many years, is due to go before council's Brierfield and Reedley area committee on March 29.
Neighbours are expected to be strongly opposed to the scheme which will create a large increase in traffic using Halifax Road. Access to the site would be via a new mini roundabout in Halifax Road.
Two houses would be demolished to make way for the estate road which would have several cul-de-sacs leading off.
The plans also show a public open space and play area and a possible bus turning circle.
The plans do not include development of two areas near Edge End Avenue - one is earmarked for a separate residential development and the other is being saved for a primary school.
Allotments behind 106-116 Halifax Road will also be left untouched.
A previous scheme by Fairclough Homes to create an access to the site was turned down last year by councillors who said they wanted to see plans for development of the whole site rather than piecemeal.
