A LIFEGUARD dived into a pool to rescue a nine-year-old girl and her aunt at Hyndburn Sports Centre.
The girl swam out of her depth and began to sink beneath the water at about noon on Sunday. Her aunt tried to rescue her but also began to struggle.
Lifeguard Jackie Kenyon, 23, of Great Harwood, dived into the water and rescued them both. They were taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary for a check-up.
A Hyndburn Council spokesman said the pool had been fairly busy and three lifeguards were on duty.
He said both the child and her aunt, both from Fern Gore, Accrington, had been breathing when rescued and were taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.
