MORE than a century of male dominance was swept away after a Conservative club voted to give full membership to women.
After 115 years, Beaconsfield Club, Stacksteads, has finally succumbed to girl power - the club's way of seeing in the new millennium, says secretary Terry Brandon, pictured welcoming new full member Vicki Smith.
In the past, the Newchurch Road club allowed women only associate membership.
Now, after a unanimous vote of 30 members, women will have equal membership and voting rights.
But they will have to wait another year, until the next annual meeting, before they can stand for election to the club committee - and the chance of real power!
