BOXING: Rossendale's Chris Crook lost his lightweight ABA Senior Championship contest against Altrincham's Lee Valentine by an 11-3 points decision in the North West Counties Finals at Preston last night.
Crook, representing Lancashire Constabulary in the East Lancashire, Cheshire, Cumbria and Isle of Man region, came up against a powerful puncher in 6ft 2ins tall Valentine in the first three rounds.
However, a shock was on the cards as Crook took the fight to Valentine in the fourth and final round.
Crook moved in close, throwing a combination of punches, that had Valentine against the ropes. Referee Brugnoli halted the fight, to inspect a cut above Valentine's left eye - but proceeded with the fight moments later.
The computerised scorecards judged Crook the loser - by a margin that looked closer than suggested.
