THE Hodgson brothers of Cakeboards shot their side into an eight-point lead in Division Three of the Burnley Sunday League.
Paul scored five and Andrew got two to complete a 7-2 rout of Commercial.
This is their 10th victory out of 12 and puts them on track for the league title, but they are being pursued by Cloverbrook and Warburtons who fought out a close match before winning 4-3, Andy Chapman was Warburton's star with a well-struck hat trick. Boys Club are finding late season form and won 4-0 over TSB thanks to Mark Biscomb who scored twice. Parkside and Colne had a close match before a late winner from Andy Braddock gave Parkside a 3-2 win.
In Division One Miners took over the lead by one goal from Northbridge by winning 6-3 over Pleasant Home and Pride. Miners, with new players Shane Robinson and Lee Wren both hitting a brace, proved too strong whilst Northbridge drew 3-3 with Black Bull. Star of the game was John Harrison of the Bull who scored a hat trick. The last goal in the final minute was a spectacular 25-yard shot to give Bull the share of the points. In the other league game CWR Scaffold won a close match over St Joseph's 2-1, both goals coming from the Carter boys.
In Division Two Rose and Crown closed the gap on Jesters with a close 1-0 win over Whitegate thanks to a Dave Pilling goal. In the other match Butterfly beat Lane Ends 3-2 with the Trickett brothers, Dave and John scoring the goals.
In the first round of the Cup, Boys Club with Craig Robinson scoring four goals for the second week, gave them a 6-0 win over Craven Heifer. Crooked Billet had a close game with Park View, Stewart Nunn and Gary Watson gave them a 2-1 victory over Park View. In the Second Division Cup, Woodman won a close game over Turf thanks to a Paul Bell goal. In the other match General Havelock had an easy passage beating Coal Clough 5-0 with Wayne Astin leading the way with three goals.
