A CORONER has ordered police to re-investigate the death of a 24-year-old Blackburn woman after reading expert fire reports into the incident which left her engulfed in flames.
Blackburn, Hyndburn and Ribble Valley Coroner Andre Rebello took the unusual step of asking the police to take second look at the case after he received a report from one of Lancashire's top fire officers.
Mother-of-four Nusarat Iqbal suffered 30 per cent burns in a fire at her home in Plane Street in August.
At the time it was believed the dead woman's clothing caught fire while she was warming up milk on the cooker at her house.
She was taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary and later transferred to Withington Hospital burns unit, where she died a week later.
Lancashire's Assistant Chief Fire Officer John Williamson was asked to consider all the circumstances of the fire after the coroner had originally received a report from a station officer and the police had taken statements from relatives and neighbours.
Mr Rebello said that the original inquiries by the police had not really begun until Mrs Iqbal's death a week after she received the burns.
"Having read Mr Williamson's report I have referred the matter back to the police with regard to them considering the whole file again," said Mr Rebello.
"At this stage I am not convinced I have enough information to conclude the inquest."
