AN EXHIBITION to encourage more Irish visitors to come to Lancashire has just completed a tour of Ireland.
Lancashire County Council organised the stall at the 1999 Holiday World Experience show which visited Belfast, Dublin and Cork, attracting celebrity guests and nearly 100,000 visitors.
Almost 400,000 Irish holidaymakers visited Lancashire in 1997 and the council is keen to keep the county at the top of their agenda for the new millennium.
Coun Wendy Dwyer, chairman of the tourism sub-committee, said: "Tourism in the North West provides direct employment for almost 200,000 people and brings £2.6 billion into the regional economy.
"I am delighted that the Lancashire stand proved popular at all the shows, with lots of information and advice being given out.
"The Council's tourism officers promoted all that the county has to offer, from seaside resorts to hill walking."
