BURNLEY'S young stand-in strikers delivered the goods with a goal apiece as the Clarets stepped up their fight to avoid the drop from Pontins League Division One.
Second half goals from substitute Anthony Shandran and Brad Maylett gave Burnley their second win in two games on a soaking night at Turf Moor.
Barnsley were promoted alongside Burnley last season but are not out of relegation trouble themselves this season and were made to rue a couple of early missed chances.
Paul Bagshaw rolled a shot against the post before Karl Rose shot into the side netting following a dangerous run from lively striker Clint Marcelle. With the luckless Kevin Henderson going off injured, Burnley looked as though they might struggle to make an impact up front.
But a fine move down the right allowed Shandran to side-foot the hosts ahead six minutes into the second half.
Marcelle, the Trinidad and Tobago international team-mate of Dwight Yorke, chipped wide with a chance to level before Maylett wrapped up a deserved win when he cut inside to thump a shot past Adam Sadler seven minutes from time.
Burnley reserves: Mawson, Scott, Devenney, Ford, Heywood, Williamson, Moore, Graham, Henderson (Shandran 23), Kelly, Maylett.
