THE old adage 'actions speak louder than words' was ably demonstrated by Brunlea's David Speak who struck the winner after his side had trailed to Darwen-outfit Oggy Hospur.
This McDonald's Hyndburn and District Boys' League Under-13s game was played in atrocious conditions, to say it was wet, windy and more than a little soggy underfoot, was to put it mildly.
Brunlea were unlucky not to score from a free kick in the opening minutes, the first goal coming 20 minutes into the first half, James Blackburn finding the back of the net for Brunlea.
Oggy, not to be outdone, went straight down the other end and equalised. Controversy rage: 'Was it or wasn't it over the goal line?' The referee adjudged it wasn't given for Brunlea, a difficult decision given the testing conditions. To rub salt in the wounds, Oggy made it 2-1 just minutes later.
Brunlea kept the pressure on though, and equalised with a good strike from Ben Fischer. The quality of the play from both sides was admirable. The winning goal, which was well worth waiting for, was a lofted 20-yarder from David Speak to seal the points for Brunlea.
