PLANNING bosses in Accrington are remaining tight-lipped over the identity of the operator of a new town centre retail store which could create up to 150 jobs.
And one firm whose named has been linked with the project today denied it was involved with the plan which will form part of a £7m development in Broadway.
A spokesman for Worksop-based discount homes and gardens goods chain Wilkinson said: "Accrington is not part of our plan at the moment although we are keen to have a store in every high street."
Wigan-based Allen Commercial Developments is drawing up a blueprint for the 16,000 sq ft complex which will include a refurbishment of the covered market and bus station and seven smaller shops.
Talks have recently taken place with traders, developers and council chiefs to help shape the final plan.
Planning bosses are believed to have invited several companies to Accrington to view the development site.
Hyndburn's director of regeneration, Nigel Rix, said: "We're moving ahead nicely and we're in touch with interested parties nearly every day.
"But we can't name the retailer involved until everything is finalised."
Vice-president of Hyndburn Chamber of Trade Michael Whewell said: "We would like a high profile, up-market retailer to raise the profile of the town centre."
