I AM writing with regards to your article 'Never on a Sunday' (Star, Feb 4) concerning playing golf at Sherdley Park Golf Course.

Firstly, I would point out that the two clubs who play the course are Sherdley Park Golf Club and St Helens Golf Club.

Also, Mr Shepherd says that he cannot secure a tee time prior to noon on a Sunday. I can honestly say that this is nothing to do with the golf clubs. Our latest tee-off time in summer is 8.30am at the latest, and in winter 9.30am at the latest. In summer our members tee off as early as 6.30am to prevent any problems with the general public.There is also a booking system in force at Sherdley, whereby you can book a tee-off time six days in advance.

I am a member of Sherdley Park Golf Club, and would like to add that in conjunction with the Mayor's Secretary, we run the Mayor's Charity Open Golf Competition, and have raised in excess of £40,000 for the Mayor's Charity.

In closing, I would like to thank the green-keeping staff for the work they do in making Sherdley Park Golf Course one of the best municipal golf courses in the area.
