I FEEL I must alert Bury to a creeping, silent disease which is going to affect everyone in the town before too long.
Some of us have already suffered, and who knows how many will fall victim in the near future.
I am talking , of course, of the dreaded cycle lanes. They are the things that prevent you from parking outside your own home at certain times, and at traffic lights - should they ever become filled with cyclists as intended - they would be more dangerous and impede traffic flow more than anything else I can imagine.
How often has anyone actually seen someone using a cycle lane? How much is it costing to establish these lanes?
No matter what the cost to us council tax-payers I am sure that the cyclists appreciate it - both of them. And I bet one of them was the person who rubber-stamped the idea in the first place.
Would not the money be better spent prosecuting all those cyclists - who, incidentally pay no road tax or obligatory insurance - who regularly break the law by jumping red lights, riding on the wrong side of the road, riding on the pavement in the town centre, riding without lights at night etc, etc?
