I WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree with your comments (LET, February 10) on Blackburn councillors calling for a discussion regarding the Glenn Hoddle affair.
Then, the following night you reported on their refusal of a disabled persons' access ramp at a bank and to your comments, I would add the word, "Pathetic!"
How can any of our councillors support such short-sighted rigid jargon as the excuse for the refusal of such a necessary aid to the very people they pretend to support - enough for them to be offended at Hoddle's remarks about the disabled?
I would emphasize the point made in regard to the risk of a disabled person being attacked after the method of payment described in your article, albeit that Nat West are willing to adopt this most reasonable request.
Does the council come out on to King William Street to collect May Chadwick's council tax? Not on your Nellie!
If nothing else, Glenn Hoddle's comments may have stirred our local and national leaders into a long hard look at some outdated rules and regulations, or have they?
J HOLDEN (Mrs), Navigation Way, Blackburn.
