Pilkington Recs 10 Wigan Spring View nil THIS was not one of Recs more inspiring victories this season.
But their solid defence that held the key to victory, while they lacked imagination in attack. Forwards Peter Cahalin, John Meadows and Mike Dennett featuring highly in the tackle count.
Recs enjoyed success in going forward on the left side of the field through strong running centre Mark Leadbetter and his wing partner Jeff Albin.
As neither side seemed able to take the initiative during the first 40 minutes the closest either side came to scoring was through two missed penalty attempts from skipper Craig Burrows.
Recs started the second half more enthusiastically and their defence was forcing handling errors from the visitors. From a scrum Kilmurray, Dennett and Andy Traverse handled to put wingman Chris Hillam diving in to score by the corner flag.
Fifteen minutes later the only real break of the game saw second row man John Rees on a 40 yard run, setting up the position for Kilmurray to put wingman Albin over in the corner.
Minutes later a penalty goal from Criag Burrows gave Recs a 10-point lead.
The Sutton Moss Boarding Kennels man of the match award went to hard working Peter Cahalin. Second row men John Meadows and John Rees pushed him close, while in the backs centres Mark Leadbetter and Andy Traverse had strong games. Latchford A 14 Recs A 2
