EURO students from Wigan and Leigh College who have completed work experience abroad received their awards this week.
At the annual prizegiving ceremony four local students were presented with their UCAPE (Union pour la Culture at L'avenir Professionel en Europe) accreditation.
They are former Lowton High pupils Helen Morley, Rebecca Watt and Michelle Foster and former Bedford High student Marie Farmer.
A college spokesperson said: "Wigan and Leigh College was proud to have the first students to gain this recognition.
"A-level language students benefit greatly from their work experience in Europe. They live with families and work either in France, Germany or Spain, gaining real work experience in industry and commerce.
"The college and students are also grateful to local companies who sponsor and support the project wholeheartedly.
"The business community know that they prefer to employ a well-rounded individual when they recruit, and the experience gained by students abroad certainly equips them with the confidence they need to go out into the workplace.
"Add to this the very high academic achievements of the students and there can be no doubt that employers will value them in the future."
