I AM overjoyed that the one to fly in the face of the cuckoo's nest concerning the proposed closure of Church Street in Blackburn to through traffic should be none other than the old warhorse himself, Councillor Peter Greenwood.
What utter joy to read his common sense remarks (Letters, February 18).
He expressed genuine and heartfelt concern about the idiocy of the orbital route around the town centre and demonstrated fully the impractical philosophy now emanating from within the traffic engineers office at the town hall. The icing on the cake was your editorial comment which described Councillor Greenwood as a "rebel with a cause", although we have come to expect a thoroughly independent view from the man on the real issues, have we not?
Just a note of caution, though, brave heart, March is nearly upon us and the Ides may herald a need for those among us who preach the gospel of common sense, to listen for the cuckoo with a call that is so sharp, it could stab you in the back.
