STUDENTS in Burnley are getting a taste for the news through our NIE Super Story Search literacy project.
Over 140 pupils in year 8 at Ivy Bank High School are improving their reading and writing skills by completing assignments in our specially designed workbook.
A daily delivery of our newspaper into school for three weeks ensures that each student receives up to date reading matter, and gifts of useful school equipment and a certificate of completion reward acheivement.
As a bonus we present free copies of some of the latest book titles to the school for review.
This is the fourth year running that the Burnley school has used our classroom material.
The head of English, Sylvia Ware, feels it is particularly valuable in stimulating an interest in reading about local issues and in studying different styles of writing.
For more details of the project please contact NIE co-ordinator Rita Shaw on 01254 678678 ext 255.
