HEAVY snow cut off much of Rossendale and police motorcyclists took hot drinks to trapped motorists as the M66 ground to a halt.
Several villages on high ground in the Ribble Valley were also cut off while the M65 was reduced to one lane in each direction as high winds swept snow off surrounding fields to block the road.
