REGARDING your report (LET, February 11) on the refusal of Blackburn's town hall planners to allow the National Westminster Bank to install wheelchair access to their premises, one of the reasons given was it's being a listed building.
So are the old town hall and King George's Hall, but this has been overcome. It could also be achieved in this instance.
The other objection by the planners was - for the safety of the blind and partially-sighted - that a ramp would be an obstruction.
Yet around the corner in Northgate, there are gates to prevent vehicular traffic, but allowing pedestrians access.
For the last four or five days to my knowledge, there has been a chain at waist height suspended between these gates - high enough for a guide dog to walk under, but just the right height for the handler to go head over heels!
