BOOKSHOPS in East Lancashire were put on a fresh alert over Salman Rushdie's Satanic Verses as worldwide furore mounted.
In Blackburn, all managers were told to be on the alert for mystery bags or packages and anyone suspicious.
Several bookshops said they were stocking the book, but would not put it on the shelves.
