A CROWD of over 70 watched Jetsun Sunbeds and Oaks United battle it out in a tense and exciting match in the Barden Community Seven-a-Side League.
Jetsun always looked the more likely to score, but found keeper Saquib Chaudrhy in excellent form, and after hitting the woodwork three times, they could count themselves unlucky.
Oaks United defended strongly, but at times had no answer to the interplay between Alan Harrison and Craig Large. Large in particular must be ruing his luck in front of goal.
In the second half Oaks looked dangerous and had more possession. They played some good football with Dave Coles making more of an impression. Five minutes into the second half Ian Addison picked the ball up and ran at the Jetsun defence, he took it around two players and chipped it over Chris Lane in the Jetsun goal for the opener.
Jetsun upped the tempo and laid siege on the Oaks goal, but it just wasn't to be and the Oaks held out for a victory which takes them to the top of the table by one point with one game still to play.
Pendle Forest moved into third with a resounding win against Park Online. Shane Rossall got two to make it 11 for the season, with Gareth Bann netting the other.
Brierfield Celtic claimed another point to try and claw their way off the bottom. Man of the match Nick Peacock scored both their goals in a 2-2 draw with the Kestrels whose goals were socred by John Farrell and Paul Gilbey. G&G Plumbing won 1-0 against One Step Beyond.
Results: One Step Beyond 0, G&G Plumbing 1; Oaks Utd 1, Jetsun Sunbeds 0; Brierfield Celtic 2, Kestrels 2; Pendle Forest 3, Park Online 0.
Leading goalscorers: Tom Fallows (G&G Plumbing) 13, Craig Large (Jetsun Sunbeds) 12, Shane Rossall (Pendle Forest) 11, Alan Harrison (Jetsun Sunbeds) 9.
