I WAS pleased to see that you want to enter into the debate on GM foods. A group of us in Lancaster have been campaigning for some time against this dangerous new technology.
Its introduction into our food and fields is more about the profits of big business than about solving real problems. We should welcome scientific discoveries, as Hilton Dawson says, but we should also recognise that there is a vast amount we do not yet know about how genes work. Just because we can modify the genes of plants does not mean we should do so.
On March 20 the North Lancashire Real Food Campaign will be holding a stall in the Market Square to give people the chance to vote on whether they think GM foods should be allowed in this country. The results will be sent to our MPs. They should listen to their constituents and ensure that the government does the same.
