I WAS pleased to see the headline "Airey leads by example" in last week's letters page (Citizen: 18 February). It is a sign that Cllr James Airey, the leader of the Conservative group on the city council is gaining recognition for acting responsibly in asking the District Auditor to publish his report on the "Blobby Affair" before the election campaign gets under way.
He has also adopted a reasonable approach in criticising inept handling of the Christley case and the recent failure of Cllr Henig and the controlling Labour group to advertise the vacant jobs externally before making appointments following the retirement of Charles Wilson as town clerk.
We need the help and support of your readers to achieve success in challenging waste and inept management, and in changing things for the better in local government in this area. If your readers who support Cllr Airey's approach would like to work in the local campaign, they are welcome to write to me at the:
Conservative Association, 1a Ellis Drive, Morecambe, LA4 6DW.
We are still actively looking for Conservative candidates for some seats and anyone who would like to discuss the possibility of joining our team of candidates for the May elections should let me know.
Roger Mace
Deputy chairman
Morecambe & Lunesdale
Conservative Association.
