Cllr Denwood wants us to look at the achievements of the council particularly in Morecambe, well the new bus station is an excellent facility, its just a pity it was not built on the library car park where more people would have used it. Lets hope they get Lancaster's new bus station right.
The Festival Market is more pleasant than the crumbling affair we used to have, sadly though the new hall still feels unfinished and is hardly a triumph of design. The former promenade station, despite millions spent on its restoration, has a clock which doesn't work, a soundproof wall that had to be installed as an afterthought. It's hardly a fantastic piece of restoration. Sadly, despite excellent external restoration, the Victoria Pavilion is becoming target for vandals with smashed windows front and back, mounting rubbish in the entrance and parking under the canopy damaging the brick sets. The Friends have over the last year offered our thanks, sought permission to fund-raise in the foyer or a shop unit and supported the Heritage Lottery when asked. Only to be treated in a discourteous manner. Regents Park and Parliament Street are an improvement, Central Park is better than the wasteland it was and I enjoy walking along the stone jetty and the promenade but car parks instead of gardens, the Midland Hotel, Frontierland, Bubbles all facing an uncertain future. Failure over the bay life centre, the Victoria Pavilion lottery bid and a lack of major attractions, can hardly be described as an outstanding achievement.
Stephen Jones, Hest Bank.
