I can't believe that people are blaming the council for the problems facing the Midland Hotel and the facts seem to be these...
The hotel is undoubtedly one of Morecambe's finest buildings.
Under its last owner the hotel suffered a shocking decline at the same time the rest of Morecambe was starting to improve.
Les Whittingham removed the Eric Gill relief sculpture, claiming it was offensive. A court ordered its return after the council went to court about it. Mysteriously it went missing after he died.
What the Midland needs now is a private operator who is prepared to invest in it and return it to its former glory. Certainly not the council to run it Mr Fisher - that is not the job of the council.
What the Midland does not need is to be a political football used by opponents of the council.
Cllr Elaine Bush, Harbour Ward
