WITH regard to the letter you published concerning my remarks on dog fouling in the Lostock Hall area.

Can I just add, in defence of my neighbours, who are responsible dog owners and carry pooper-scoop bags, that I was not referring to the Bridgeway area.

People who frequently walk their dogs or babies will know the blackspots.

I do feel sorry for the pensioner with her dogs, who does not want her 'babies' catching anything from cat dirt.

That is exactly how mums with young children feel.

Cats, however, are not walked on leads to relieve themselves. They are independent creatures and would bury it, albeit in someone's garden.

My point was that dogs were fouling public highways, not someone's garden.

Concerning the 'Realist', they must have thought it was an important issue once, to have contacted South Ribble Borough Council about the matter - which is more than I did.

Just to set the record straight, I do like dogs and cats and I know what a joy they can be.

I'm getting a dog shortly and, yes, I will be buying a scoop!
