BURNLEY's former county court could be set for a new lease of life - as a cabaret club.
The man behind the idea is Burnley businessman and major Clarets' shareholder John Turkington whose application for a public entertainment music an dancing licence for the Bankhouse Street has been granted by Burnley councillors.
Mr Turkington, head of bakery equipment manufacturer J.F. Turkington (Engineers) Ltd of Widow Hill Road, is also applying to Burnley council planners for a change of use of the former court building to a cabaret club.
Mr Turkington, who has several business interests in Burnley and recently sank £200,000 in the Burnley FC new share issue, also wants alterations and an extension to the court house.
The imposing red brick building has been empty for more than a decade, since the court was transferred to the Burnley Crown Court complex in Hammerton Street.
The building has deteriorated since closure.
