LYTHAM St Annes Hockey Club 1st XI came away from Disley losing 5-4 in a closely contested and entertaining match.
Within the first 20 minutes LSA were 4-0 up, with goals from Dave Robbins and Rob Jackson from short corners, while Chris Kay and Ollie Bell created superb goals in open play. However, with the LSA defence caught napping, Disley came back and had closed the score to 4-2 just before the break. In the second half Disley upped the tempo with consistent well-worked attacks, scoring three times to take the lead. LSA pressed just before the final whistle and were unlucky not to equalise.
PLAYING in the Berrymans Lace Mawer North West League Division 5, LSA 2nd XI continued their winning form by beating an experienced Crewe side 2-1 at Ansdell. After going a goal down early on in their customary slow start, LSA gradually got back into the game and were rewarded when Chris Hadley levelled the scores with a good strike before half-time. In the second half LSA continued to pressurise and eventually took the lead through a solid short corner strike from Dougie Green. Despite further chances, the scoreline remained unchanged, with LSA happy to take the three points.
LYTHAM Ladies 3rd XI were the only ladies team in action last weekend - in a rearranged match - and right from the start they attacked the Southport goal. Emma Higgs opened the scoring from an excellent pass from Lian Atkinson. Minutes later the score was doubled when Sally-Anne Ogden confidently converted a penalty flick. Southport were also awarded a flick which was superbly saved by player of the match Izzy Waters in goal. In the second half Southport came back strongly and were soon awarded another penalty flick which was again saved. However, Southport scored to close the gap, but Lytham held on to come away 2-1 winners.
