A TALENTED trio of amateur boxers have blasted their way to more glory.
The teenage threesome - all members of the St Helens Town ABC, based at Bobbies Lane, Eccleston - are earmarked for stardom following their latest triumphs against top-class opposition.
Seventeen-year-old Steve Birch added to his growing reputation with an impressive victory for the England under-19s squad in London, clearly outpointing the German champion in the crucial final contest to secure a 4-2 success.
Meanwhile, his teammates Gary Davies and Martin Murray, both aged 16, lifted North West Counties Schoolboys titles.
Reigning champion Gary, fighting at the eight-stone mark, proved too strong for Shaun Dyer, stopping his rival in the second round.
And Martin, who has unluckily missed out on international call-ups in the past, gave a timely reminder of what he can do when he scored a unanimous points win in the seven-stone category. He now goes straight through to the National semi-finals.
