ONE of the founder members of St Helens Archers, Bob Parkinson, has been appointed by the sport's governing body as a national coach.
Bob, from Rainford, will be responsible for restructuring the national scheme to train and examine club and county coaches.
Bob qualified as an instructor in his native North East in 1966. After moving to Rainford he gained his county coach certificate in 1973, and since becoming regional coach in 1978 has been closely involved in coach training.
Meanwhile, a review of scores submitted in 1998 revealed what is thought to be a record for the club.
Norman Webster, of Rainford, achieved a remarkable 100 per cent hits - not one of the 2736 arrows he shot in competition having missed its mark. The 70 scores submitted by members last month was a record for the number of rounds shot in the month of January in any year since the club started at Moss Lane in 1968.
In the January Members Handicap Shoot, Tony Lewis from Eccleston won with a comfortable 25 point margin over second placed Steve Banks from Liverpool.
