Vine Tavern 6 Bold Miners 42 THE Miners won this St Helens Hays Chemicals Cup tie in a workman-like fashion against a young Tavern team who never gave up till the final whistle.
Chris Burgess opened the scoring with a well taken try, Mick Joseph, Wayne Kenyon and Mark Saunders scored a try each. Dave Scott raced 60 metres for a spectacular try with Saunders adding a goal, Vine replied with a deserved try and goal to make the score 22-6 in Bolds favour at half time.
Mark Saunders finished off a great passing movement for another great score, Gareth Hill added two good tries, Peter Henry crashed over for a touch down and Saunders added four goals to complete the scoring.
The outstanding Gary Talbot took the Grundy Excavations man of the match award, with Brian Connaire and Mark Saunders showing up well.
