COME and join the men in black.
That's the message from the St Helens Combination.
A league spokesman told the Star: "Because of a chronic shortage of referees, not only in the Combination, but around the North West in general, we have launched a recruitment and retention plan."
"The recruitment plan involves targeting all league clubs for possible recruits and friends, families and workmates of existing referees. We will also be contacting the junior leagues about promoting their officials."
The retention plan involves persuading referees to stay with the Combination.
Courses are now being held at Greenalls Social Club, Alder Hey Road on the following Wednesday evenings, Marsh 3, 10, 17 and 24.
Any budding official should contact Derek Cleveland at 18 Honiston Avenue, Rainhill L35 8LR, or phone 0151 426 1164, for further details.
