FIREFIGHTERS in Bury could be balloted over possible industrial action.
Their union is opposing the Greater Manchester Fire Authority's decision to review the management and structure of divisions within the brigade.
The Fire Brigades Union says apart from the loss of 21 officer posts, the authority's decision also undermines the conditions of service for remaining officers within the brigade.
They stress the dispute is primarily due to what they describe as the lack of meaningful negotiation on ranks, role, responsibility and pay.
At a meeting of the union this week, it was agreed that if this negotiating status is withheld, then it could lead to the national officers being authorised to begin the first stages of a ballot.
This, says the union, could lead to what it calls "the most effective industrial action, through non-compliance with the review of the management and structure of divisions within the brigade."
