POLICE are appealing to anyone who may be able to help them with their inquiries regarding break-ins at two homes on the same night.
Officers believe that the same person could be responsible for breaking into homes in Haydock and Windle, on the evening of Tuesday, February 16.
The first break-in was at the home of a 66-year-old infirm man at about 9pm in Greenwell Road, Haydock. The intruder was disturbed by the occupant and left empty-handed.
And about 40 minutes later an intruder broke into the home of an 86-year-old woman in Abbey Road, Windle. He demanded cash from the woman, but she told him she had none and again he fled empty-handed.
The intruder is described as white, 5ft 8in tall, stocky build, mid 20s to 30s. He was wearing a woollen bob cap and a head scarf - which may have been green - around his face, a blue coat and dark trousers. He spoke "nicely" and possibly had a Liverpool accent.
Anyone who can help the police with their inquiries can contact DC John Heath at St Helens police station on 0151 777 6874, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
